Why the name “A Place At The Table?”

A place at the table is a website celebrating Christian welcome and inclusion for all. We are reminded that the gospel message invites us each to the table.

The name “A Place At The Table” comes from a contemporary hymn, “For everyone born, a place at the table” written by New Zealand writer Shirley Erena Murray. The words reflect the message that all are invited. As Christians not only is it our privilege to be at the table, but it is our calling to make room for others and to serve those who would join us.

Come and join us at the table

All who wish to share at the table  are invited. There is a place for you where you are included and  affirmed. The site aims to include resources, support and encouragement regardless of your story.

While the primary focus of the material is to provide information and assistance for those who are committed to calling for inclusion and greater understanding  of sexuality, gender identity and faith issues in The Salvation Army,  feel free to enjoy, take part and share the site  with your friends

Why is this important?

“A Place At The Table” is a ministry resource developed by New Zealand Salvation Army member, Colin Daley.  Colin  grew up in The Salvation Army where his parents were full time officers (ministers).

The Christian church, including The Salvation Army has not always been a place of safety, welcome and inclusion for members of the LGBTQ+ communities.  It is his prayer that through site, more Christians will ask themselves how they can “Be the Change” and make a difference in the world. Won’t you join us?
